PAYPAL HELP

Warning: Use PayPal at your own risk. If the buyer receives the dress and informs PayPal that it is not as described, they will take the money back from you first and ask questions later. Paypal does not take in to account that you may have advertised the dress as final sale. Even if the dress is exactly as described, PayPal will still take the money back and it is up to you to prove otherwise.

Warning #2 - New Paypal Refund Policy: From May 2019, Paypal will no longer refund their fees when a payment is refunded, but will refund the full payment to the buyer. This leaves the seller out of pocket as paypal will charge the fee to you. This fee is approximately 2.9% of the amount being refunded. Because of this new policy, I would not recommend using Paypal to accept payment for your dress.

Taking in to account the above warnings...PayPal is a fast and very secure way to transfer money anywhere in the world. I have been using PayPal for years to receive payments for dress listings and have also used it to receive payments for my own daughters dresses when sold overseas. I have listed below some basic tips for using PayPal. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email me.

What kind of PayPal account should you open?

All PayPal accounts have fees attached for certain transactions. You should only need a "Personal" account if you are not a frequent user. Depending on your country of residence, domestic payments made from your PayPal balance or transferred from your linked bank account will be fee free. All credit card and International payments attract fees. The fees are quite low and you can work out how much they would be by going to the PayPal website and clicking on the "Fees" link that is right at the bottom of every page. If your buyer wishes to pay by credit card, they will usually pay this fee on top of the dress price and shipping, or you can agree to split it.

You will need to verify your account by giving PayPal your bank account details. This is so you are able to withdraw your money out of your PayPal account and into your bank account.

PayPal keeps rejecting my credit card, what am I doing wrong?

1. Make sure that you are entering your credit card number as one long number, do not leave spaces between the groups of numbers as they appear on your card. Your address also needs to be entered exactly as it appears on your credit card statement.

2. Sometimes PayPal will reject a card for no reason. Leave your payment for a while and then try again or if you have a second credit card, try using it instead.

3. If you are still having trouble, contact PayPal by clicking on the "help" link in the top right hand corner of your screen. You will then be given phone and email options to contact them. I have also had success contacting them via their Facebook page by private message, they usually answer quite quickly.

I am in one country and my buyer is in another, can I be paid in my own currency?

In most cases the answer is yes. PayPal accepts payments in US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euros, Pounds Stirling, New Zealand Dollars and even Japanese Yen! I recommend that you send the buyer a PayPal money request in the currency you wish to be paid in.

Go to your PayPal account and click on the tab at the top of the page that says "Send & Request".

You will be taken to a screen that looks like this.

Select "Request".

Enter the buyers email address and click "next".

Enter the amount you would like to receive and select your currency from the drop down menu. Add a note to the buyer if needed and click "Request Now".

The request is then sent to the buyer in an email which will contain a link to a secure payment page. They can make a payment by credit card without opening an account, or sign in to an existing account and make the payment from there. You will also receive an email from PayPal confirming that the request has been sent.

What happens next?

As soon as the buyer sends their payment through to PayPal, it appears in your PayPal account and you will receive an email from PayPal confirming the payment. You should leave the money in your account until the dress arrives and the buyer is happy. Once the sale is all final, you are free to withdraw the money from your PayPal account to your bank account.

Please email me if there are any other questions you would like to see answered on this page.
