| Thinking about selling your dress on ebay? Here is a quick run down on the fees ebay charges you and how they compare to Dance Again. Firstly with ebay you are on a time limit, the longest you can list your dress without having to pay their insertion fee again is 20 days, 10 days for the initial listing and then if your dress doesn't sell, you have one free re-list up to another 10 days. This gives you a very small window to sell your dress. On Dance Again, your dress stays listed until it sells, with no additional fees. On ebay you have an "Insertion fee" this is the fee to place your ad. You then have a "Final value fee" which is a percentage of your final sale price. If you want to set a reserve price on your auction, there is an additional fee. I will try and explain them all below! Insertion Fee If your starting price is $50 - $199.99 the insertion fee is $2.40 If your starting price is $200 - $499.99 the insertion fee is $3.60 If your starting price is $500 or more, the insertion fee is $4.80 Reserve Fee If you would like to set a reserve price on your auction, a price that you will not sell below, there is a fee of 1% of your reserve price. This fee is refunded if the dress sells, but not refunded if your reserve price isn't reached. For example if you set your reserve at $800 you will pay an additional $8.00 on top of the other fees payable. Final Value Fee This fee is worked out on the final price your auction achieves, it is broken into different percentages. If your final sale price is between $25 and $1,000 :- 1. 5.25% of the first $25 = $1.31 ( I know, it's $1.32 but ebay says it's $1.31 ! ) plus.. 2. 3% of the remaining amount over $25 If your final sale price is $1,001 or over :- 1. 5.25% of the first $25 = $1.31 plus.. 2. 3% of the amount from $25.01 to $1,000 = $29.25 plus.. 3. 1.5% of the remaining balance from $1,001 upwards. Confused? Here are some example dress prices and what fees they would attract. |
| There are also other small fees for things such as having a thumbnail (gallery) photo on the main list page or having a bold type heading etc. A complete list of ebay fees can be found here. You can reduce your fees very slightly by having a low starting price but I advise against this unless you are willing to actually sell for a low price. You could, for example, start your auction off at $50, but if you only get one or two bids and your price gets to $60, you must be willing to sell at this price. By agreeing to list on ebay, you agree to sell for the closing price, no matter how low it may be. You can of course cancel your auction at any time but you will lose any insertion fees or reserve fees already paid. If your reserve price isn't achieved or your dress doesn't sell, you pay only the insertion fee, reserve fee ( if you set a reserve) and thumbnail photo, bold heading etc fee. The only thing you don't pay is the final value fee. I hope that isn't all too confusing. Dance Again has one fee: 3% of your asking price or $US30. You pay whichever works out to be the lowest amount. Your dress stays listed until it is sold, no matter how long it takes. Changes to your ad including changing the photo, price, measurements or dress description are free, you get unlimited free changes. Thanks for reading, I hope you have found this information helpful.
